WordPress 3.9 Fix
After updating to WordPress 3.9 I couldn’t access the WordPress Dashboard. Specifically, I couldn’t get past the following screen to access the dashboard:
The solution for me was to perform the following 3 steps. Note that every site, mix of plugins and hosting environment is unique, so your mileage might vary.
Step 0. Back that sh*t up
Backup your site before upgrading plugins, themes, and WP releases. This goes without saying, but there, I said it anyway. Back that shit up.
Step 1. Disable all plugins
Since I couldn’t access the Dashboard to disable the plugins, this was done via phpMyAdmin (WP_Options table > Row 35). I saved a copy of the active plugins in a text editor so I could just paste them back in in step 3.
Step 2. Clear server cache
For WPEngine hosted sites, this is a button click. If you’re using a caching plugin, follow your plugin’s process.
Step 3. Reactivate all plugins.
I pasted the active plugins from Step 1 into row 35 of the WP_Options table. DONE!
Here’s the site that spawned this post.
